Why Is Fidas Consent Training Needed?

Things you might not know...

  • 97% of perpetrators of sexual assault and rape are male

  • Someone who has been investigated for a sexual offence - any sexual offence - might have an entry on an enhanced DBS check - for life. Even if the case is no further actioned.

  • The age of consent is 16 - that means ANY sexual activity under 16 is illegal - even kissing your boyfriend or girlfriend if they are under 16

  • Someone who has been found not guilty by a jury for a sexual offence, might still have an entry on the DBS check for life.

  • Only the perpetrator of a sexual offence is responsible for what they did - the victim/survivor is not to blame, no matter what they did before, during or after the offence. 

Sexual violence is an epidemic.

  • 1 in 3 women experience sexual violence during their lifetime.

  • 1 in 6 girls have been sexually abused.

  • Nearly all forms of violence against women and girls are expected to rise in the coming year.

  • 49% of all sexual offences are committed against 10-19 year olds.

  • Nearly 90% of girls have been sent unwanted sexually explicit images/videos.

  • Young people say that sexual harassment occurs so frequently that it is ‘common place’.

Misconceptions are widespread.

  • 49% of adults do not understand what 'reasonable belief in consent' means.

  • 47% of 18-24 year olds think that it is not rape if a victim does not resist or fight back.

  • 50% of 18-24 year olds believe that the rules of consent apply differently online and offline.

  • 58% of 18-24 year olds believe that consent is assumed within a relationship or marriage.

  • 58% of 18-24 year olds believe that women either often or sometimes make up rape allegations.
